When Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) died, he left behind a unique resource, complete transcripts of over 1600 readings he had given in the last decades of his life to the hundreds of people who came to him for help and advice. Subsequently, under the leadership of his son Hugh Lynn Cayce, The Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE) and the Edgar Cayce Foundation mobilized thousands of people to explore and study the transcripts which were cross-indexed and proved the inspiration for numerous books which have attempted systematically to present the information and teachings scattered in bits and pieces haphazardly through the readings. Below are some excerpts from Hugh Lynn Cayce's book VENTURE INWARD, Published by Harper and Row.
|Between the ages of 11 and 12, Edgar Cayce read the Bible three times . He read the Bible every day, reading it over 50 times in his life time.|
Excerpts from Chapter One of VENTURE INWARD: The EDGAR CAYCE STORY by Hugh Lynn Cayce
The information in a great many different Edgar Cayce readings describes a world of thought forms, thought patterns, which are built up by individual and mass thought, planning and purpose held at the mind level. This thought world is a world of matter, but matter in an energy pattern which can be molded by mind. To a sensitive, a prophet, this world may seem as real as the three dimensional world. This thought world may be the world which is seen in precognition and prophecy. The action of will controls which thought pattern or thought form is drawn into three-dimensional expression. Will is free but is also conditioned at any given point of expression in matter at the earth plane level.
The following was an interesting general statement made in a reading on October 7, 1935, on European affairs:
As to affairs of an international nature, we find a condition of area? anxiety on the part of many; not only of individuals but of nations. And activities already begun have now assumed such proportions that groups will attempt to attach penalties and set up groups to carry them out. This will cause a taking of sides, as it were, by various other groups, countries or governments. Such will be manifested by the Austrians and Germans and later on the Japanese joining this influence. Thus an unseen force, gradually growing, must result in an almost direct 0Th position to the Nazi, or Aryan theme. This will gradually produce a growth of animosities. And unless there is interference by what many call supernatural forces and influences-which are active in the affairs of nations and peoples-the whole world, as it were, will be set on fire by militaristic groups and people who are for power and expansion.4I6-7
On the general economic and social conditions in the United States the following is a typical statement from a reading given June 20, 1938:
Unless dealings one with another are in keeping with His tenets, they must fail; for all power in heaven and in earth hath been given into His hands. In an approach to all phases of human relationships, these ideals must be taken into consideration. There cannot be one measuring stick for the laborer in the field or the man behind the counter, and another for the man behind the money changers! All are equal-not only under the material law, but un&r the spiritual law. And His laws, His will, will not come to naught! Though periods may come when there will be great stress-as brother rises against brother, as a group or sect or race rises against-yet the leveling must come. And only those who have set their ideal in Him, and practiced it in their dealings with their fellow man, may expect to survive the wrath of the Lord. In thy dealings then-whether at home, with the state or national situations or with international affairs all must come under compliance with that purpose, that desire.
Then there should be-there will be-those rising to power who are able to meet the needs. For none are in power but that they have been given the opportunity by the will of the Father, from whom all power emanates. Hence all will be level in respect to the purpose, "My word shall not fail!" 3976-18
With respect to Russia the following statements are interesting:
Q. What should be the attitude of so called capitalist nations toward Russia?
A. The greater hope of the world will come through Russia's religious development. The one nation or group which is closest in relationship with Russia may fare best during the gradual changes and the final settlement of conditions, as to the rule of the world. (February 8, 1932) 3976-10
Q. About the Russian situation?
A. As we have indicated before, a new understanding has come and will come to a troubled people. Here, because of the yoke of oppression, because of self-indulgences, another extreme has arisen. Only when there is freedom of speech, and the right to worship according to the dictates of conscience-until these come about, turmoil will still be within. (June 24, 1938) 3976-19
In a reading given in June, 1939, a question was asked about the Negro in America:
Q. What should be our attitude toward the Negro, and how may we best work out the karma created in relationships with him?
A. He is thy brother! Those who caused or brought servitude to him, without thought or purpose, have created that which must be met within their own principles, their own selves. These [Negroes] should be held in an attitude of their own individual fitness-as in every other form of association. For He hath made of one blood the nations of the earth. 3976-24
The following statement was made in June, 1940, in a conference reading before approximately fifty people:
When many of the isles of the sea and many of the lands have come under the subjugation of those who fear neither man nor the devil; who rather join themselves with that force by which they may proclaim might and power as right-as of a superman who is to be an ideal for generations to be established; then shall thy own land see the blood flow, as in those periods when brother fought against brother. 3976-25
The Pearl Harbor attack took place December 7, 1941.
From the unconscious state Edgar Cayce saw what he interpreted as a period from 1958 to 1998 when scientific, economic, political, social, and land changes would be accelerated.
These changes in the earth will come to pass for the time and times and half time [Rev. 12:14] are at an end, and there begin those periods for the readjustments. For how bath He given? "The righteous shall inherit the earth." Hast thou, my brethren, a heritage in the earth? (June 30, 1936) 294-185
As to the changes physical again: The earth will be broken up in the western portion of America. The greater portion of Japan must go into the sea. The upper portion of Europe will be changed as in the twinkling of an eye. Land will appear off the east coast of America. There will be the upheavals in the Arctic and in the Antarctic that will make for the eruption of volcanoes in the Torrid areas, and there will be the shifting then of the poles-so that where there have been frigid or semitropical lands these will become the more tropical, and moss and fern will grow.
And these changes will begin in those periods in '58 to '98, when these will be proclaimed as the periods when His Light will be seen again in the clouds. As to times, as to seasons, as to places, alone it is given to those who have named the Name-and who bear the Mark of those of His calling and His election in their bodies. To them it shall be given. (January 19, 1934)3976-15
Q. How soon will the changes in the earth's activity begin to be apparent?
A. When there is the first breaking up of some conditions in the South Seas (that's South Pacific, to be sure) and those conditions as apparent in the sinking or rising of that which is almost opposite to it, or in the Mediterranean, and the Aetna area. Then we may know it has begun. (April 9, 1932) 311-8
If there are the greater activities in Vesuvius or Pelee, then the south-em coast of California-and the areas between Salt Lake and the southern portions of Nevada-may expect, within the three months following same, an inundation [caused] by the earthquakes. But these, as we find, are to be more in the southern than in the northern hemisphere. (1936)270-35
In other readings it was also indicated that land would appear off the east coast of America, specifically in the Bahamas. Expect this, said the readings, in sixty-eight and sixty-nine.
On November 11, 1927, this was given in a reading: the day may yet arrive when one may diagnose the condition of the body through one drop of blood.
On March 20, 1958, newspapers carried the announcements of Dr. Winston Price's work on blood at Johns Hopkins. The article concluded, "His discovery could mean that a medical laboratory can tell what ails you . . . simply by examining a drop of your blood."
Early in the 1930'S Edgar Cayce insisted in readings that solar power would ultimately be far more important to man than atomic power.
One final bit of data from the part of the unconscious of Edgar Cayce which seemed to deal with the future. This came through one of Edgar Cayce's dreams and his own interpretation of this through a reading.
To understand the significance of this dream it is necessary to be acquainted with the activities and conditions which led up to it. In November, 1935, the entire Cayce family, including Miss Davis, had been arrested in Detroit for practicing medicine without a license. Court action was postponed until the early part of March, 1936. The family returned to Virginia Beach. January and February of 1936 were low periods in the history of the work. Edgar Cayce was ill. He worried not so much over the outcome of the court action, but because of the persecution which seemed to continue in the face of his attempts to give the readings.
Late in February the family returned to Detroit and on March 3, 1936, court action was over and everyone was free to return to Virginia Beach. While on the train that night Edgar Cayce had the following dream:
He had been born again in A.D. 2100 in Nebraska. The sea apparently covered all of the western part of the country, as the city where he lived was on the coast. The family name was a strange one. At an early age as a child he declared himself to be Edgar Cayce who had lived two hundred years before. Scientists, men with long beards, little hair, and thick glasses, were called in to observe the child. They decided to visit the places where he said he had been born, lived, and worked in Kentucky, Alabama, New York, Michigan, and Virginia. Taking the child with them, the group of scientists visited these places in a long, cigar shaped, metal flying ship which moved at high speed. Water covered part of Alabama. Norfolk, Virginia, had became an immense seaport. New York had been destroyed either by war or an earthquake and was being rebuilt. Industries were scattered over the countryside. Most of the houses were of glass. Many records of Edgar Cayce's work were discovered and collected. The group returned to Nebraska, taking the records with them for study.
On June 30, 1936, a reading was given in which an interpretation of my father's dream-experience was requested. The answer follows:
The experiences, as has oft been indicated, come to the body in those manners in which there may be help, strength, for periods when doubt or fear may have arisen. As in this experience, there were about the entity those influences which appeared to make for such a period of confusion as to appear to the material or mental-minded as a doubting or fearing of those sources which caused the periods through which the entity was passing in that particular period.
And the vision was that there might be strength, that there might be an understanding, that though the moment may appear dark, though there may be periods of the misinterpreting of purposes, even these will be turned into that which will be the very proof itself in the experiences of the entity and those whom the entity might, whom the entity would, in its experience through the earth plane, help, and those to whom the entity might give hope and understanding.
This then is the interpretation. As has been given, "fear not." Keep the faith; for those that be with thee are greater than those that would hinder. Though the very heavens fall, though the earth shall be changed, though the heavens shall pass, the promises in Him are sure and will stand-as in that day-as the proof of thy activity in the lives and hearts of thy fellow men.
For indeed and in truth ye know, "As ye do it unto thy fellow man, ye do it unto thy God, to thyself." For with self effaced, God may indeed glorify thee and make thee stand as one who is called for a purpose in thy dealings, in thy relationships with thy fellow man. Be not unmindful that He is nigh unto thee in every trial, in every temptation, and bath not willed that thou shouldst perish. Make thy will, then, one with His. Be not afraid. That is the interpretation; that the periods from the material angle, as visioned, are to come to pass, matters not to the soul, but do thy duty TODAY! TOMORROW will care for itself. 294-185
In the foregoing we have examined the power of Edgar Cayce's unconscious mind to exercise dynamic control over his physical body; the photographic like quality of memory; an apparent "reach" to contact other minds and bring through what seemed to be helpful information on the condition and needs of the physical body; the tapping of what he called the soul memory of past lives; and, finally, the picking up of thought impressions from a world of mental images and from these suggesting future events in our three dimensional world
